About Ruma Devi
Ruma Devi is a renowned Indian traditional handicraft fashion designer and social worker from Barmer, Rajasthan. She is the driving force behind a network of over 50,000 rural women, whom she has trained and connected to sustainable livelihoods.
Her journey began with a simple desire to earn a living. In 2006, she convinced 10 women from her village to form a self-help group. Each member contributed ₹100, which they used to purchase a second-hand stitching machine, fabric, threads, and plastic wrappers to craft cushions and bags.
Her determination led her to Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan in Barmer, where she joined as a member in 2008. By 2010, she had risen to become the president of the NGO, driving impactful change in rural communities. Today, Ruma Devi is dedicated to promoting the craftsmanship of tribal artisans and minority communities across India, ensuring that their talent and hard work receive the recognition they deserve. Her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to national recognition makes her a sought-after motivational speaker, empowering countless individuals with her story of hard-work and leadership. Book Ruma Devi as a motivational speaker to make your event unforgettable.
Ruma Devi uses her own life experiences to establish a rapport with her audience and present an effective speaking style. Organizations have asked her to present at various types of events, including corporate responsibility conferences, leadership summit meetings focused on women and/or sustainability. Through her experience, Ruma Devi motivates those in attendance with the action of the inclusion and empowerment as well as the impact they can make by getting involved through their local communities.
