About Rakesh Maria
Rakesh Maria is widely regarded as one of India’s most formidable and insightful police officers, known for his exceptional investigative acumen, calm leadership under pressure, and deep understanding of counter-terrorism and organised crime. A former Commissioner of Mumbai Police, his career in the Indian Police Service spans over three decades, during which he handled some of the most defining security cases in India’s modern history.
Maria played a central role in the investigation of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, personally interrogating Ajmal Kasab and uncovering critical intelligence that exposed the cross-border conspiracy behind the attacks. Earlier, he successfully cracked the 2003 Zaveri Bazaar and Gateway of India bomb blasts, and as Deputy Commissioner of Police, he was deeply involved in investigating the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. His work combined field intelligence, interrogation psychology, and strategic coordination, skills rarely found together at such scale.
What few people speak about is Maria’s institutional memory and ethical clarity. Across politically charged and emotionally volatile investigations, he consistently prioritised evidence over noise and process over pressure. This discipline is what makes his insights especially valuable today, when misinformation, panic cycles, and reactive decision-making dominate crisis environments.
His bestselling memoir, Let Me Say It Now, continues to be referenced for its rare, first-hand account of India’s internal security challenges and leadership dilemmas.
As a speaker, Maria brings unmatched experience, unquestionable expertise, and a voice of authority and trust shaped by lived responsibility rather than theory. His sessions are sober, compelling, and deeply instructive, especially for leaders operating in high-risk, high-accountability environments.
