About Gauri Sawant

Gauri Sawant is a pioneering Indian transgender activist, mother, and motivational speaker whose life has been a story of courage, resilience, and social transformation. Born in Pune, she left home at the age of 14 to follow her authentic self, defying societal norms and inspiring generations. In 2001, she became the first transgender person in India to adopt a child, breaking deep-rooted orthodox traditions and establishing herself as a symbol of love and advocacy.

As the founder and director of Sakhi Char Chowghi, Gauri has been instrumental in providing support to transgender individuals and people affected by HIV/AIDS, delivering social programs and awareness campaigns across Maharashtra and India. Her advocacy extends to legal reforms, healthcare access, and education for marginalized communities. In 2014, she filed a landmark petition in the Supreme Court of India seeking adoption rights for transgender people, amplifying her voice in legal and social spheres.

Gauri Sawant’s story has reached national prominence through media portrayals and campaigns. The acclaimed web series “Taali”, starring Sushmita Sen, is based on her life, while Vicks’ campaign showcasing her journey alongside Gayatri garnered over 9 million views, highlighting her influence and reach. She also serves as the Goodwill Ambassador for the Election Commission of Maharashtra, furthering civic awareness.

As a keynote speaker, Gauri Sawant shares lessons on resilience, LGBTQ+ rights, social inclusion, mental health, and adoption advocacy, making her an ideal choice for organizations seeking to inspire, educate, and cultivate empathy. Her presence elevates events, offering audiences a transformative experience that blends personal storytelling with actionable insights.

Why Gauri Sawant ?

Gauri's own journey as an adoptive mother to a daughter brought a deeply human face to transgender parenthood in India. Her sessions challenge conventional definitions of family, encouraging corporate audiences to question assumptions about who deserves dignity, care, and belonging.
Gauri founded a shelter providing safety and support for transgender individuals facing rejection and hardship. She shares the practical realities of building sustainable social infrastructure from the ground up, offering CSR and social impact teams a grounded, credible perspective.
Gauri's story reached millions through a widely watched television campaign, moving transgender acceptance from activist circles into everyday households. Her sessions explore how a single authentic story, well told, can shift mass public perception more effectively than any policy alone.
Every insight Gauri shares is grounded in her own lived experience navigating rejection, resilience, and eventual recognition. This authenticity gives her corporate sessions on inclusion a depth and credibility that resonates far beyond standard diversity training content.
Gauri consistently frames inclusion not as compliance but as an act of genuine compassion that strengthens communities and organisations alike. Her talks leave corporate audiences with a renewed, emotionally grounded understanding of why inclusion matters beyond policy checkboxes.
