About Kartiki Gonsalves
Kartiki Gonsalves is an Academy Award–winning documentary filmmaker, director, producer, and wildlife photographer whose work has reshaped how Indian stories of nature, care, and coexistence are told on the world stage. Best known for directing The Elephant Whisperers, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film, Kartiki brought an intimate, deeply humane Indian narrative to a global audience—without spectacle, sensationalism, or excess.
Her experience is rooted in immersive storytelling. Trained as a photographer and filmmaker, Kartiki has spent years documenting landscapes, communities, and wildlife across India. Her visual language, patient, observant, and emotionally restrained, allows stories to unfold organically. Kartiki’s expertise lies in translating complex ecological and human relationships into accessible, emotionally resonant narratives. What is less spoken about is her discipline of intentional invisibility as a creator, she places the subject above the storyteller, allowing dignity, silence, and trust to do the narrative work. This restraint is rare in contemporary visual media and is central to why her work feels authentic rather than performative.
Her authority comes from international recognition, festival circuits, and institutional trust; her trustworthiness from consistently honouring her subjects, human and non-human, without distortion. She speaks not as a celebrity filmmaker, but as a practitioner deeply committed to craft, ethics, and long-term impact.
As a speaker, Kartiki Gonsalves inspires audiences to see the world differently, to slow down, observe deeply, and tell stories that matter. Her sessions blend creativity with purpose, making her a powerful voice for artists, leaders, and changemakers alike.
