What

Latin Connection is engage4more’s most musically diverse team-building experience — a highly entertaining, stimulating, and genuinely memorable activity where groups of participants each play a different musical instrument and a different rhythm, and the transformative moment comes when all groups play simultaneously and the disparate rhythms resolve into a single, unified, astonishingly complex musical arrangement. The use of multiple instruments — congas, djembes, shakers, claves, tambourines, and more — makes each group’s contribution distinctly audible in the whole, creating the most tangible possible demonstration of the principle that every individual contribution is essential to collective excellence.

Our delivery is grounded in engage4more’s MORE² Framework, which diagnoses the precise engagement gaps your team needs to address. Where strategic alignment is the objective, we layer in our SPARK Framework to connect the activity to your organisational priorities. To maximise the day’s impact, we recommend anchoring the session with one of our expert Motivational Speakers whose keynote primes the team for the experience ahead.

Latin Connection is one of engage4more’s most requested activities for large-group townhalls and leadership summits precisely because the moment of musical unification — when every instrument and every rhythm comes together as “one sound” — is an experiential proof of team synergy that no presentation slide can replicate. Participants who cannot read music, who have never played an instrument, and who arrive convinced they are “not musical” consistently emerge from the session glowing with the pride of collective musical achievement. That transformation is the activity’s most powerful outcome.

How

A trained facilitator guides the full group through a carefully sequenced learning journey. Participants are divided into sub-groups, each assigned a different instrument and a specific rhythmic pattern. The facilitator teaches each group their part using a simple, visual cue system that requires no musical literacy. Groups practise their individual patterns until comfortable, then the facilitator orchestrates the “bring-together” moment — introducing each group’s rhythm one by one into the collective arrangement until all instruments are playing simultaneously. The final unified sound is the session’s climactic moment: a stunning, complex, multi-layered musical composition created entirely by people who arrived believing they could not make music.

To book Latin Connection for your event,

Stages

  • Stage 1: The Instrument Introduction – Participants receive their instruments and the facilitator demonstrates each instrument’s sound and role in the overall arrangement.

  • Stage 2: The Individual Rhythm Learning – Each sub-group learns their specific rhythmic pattern using the visual cue system. Groups practise until every member is comfortable with their part.

  • Stage 3: The Section Rehearsals – The facilitator rehearses each group’s rhythm individually with the full group listening, building anticipation for the combination.

  • Stage 4: The Latin Connection Finale – All groups play simultaneously, with the facilitator conducting the arrangement into its full, unified expression. The moment of “one sound” is the session’s emotional peak.

FAQs

None required. Our facilitator uses a simple visual cue system that makes every rhythmic pattern immediately learnable for complete non-musicians. Participants who have never touched a musical instrument consistently master their part within 10 minutes.
The standard kit includes congas, djembe hand drums, shakers, claves, tambourines, and frame drums — covering both melodic and percussive roles within the arrangement. The specific mix is calibrated based on group size and the complexity of the musical arrangement.
Latin Connection works best for groups of 30 to 500+ participants. The format reaches its full emotional power at scale — the larger the group, the more stunning the unified sound. For smaller groups of 15 to 30, we offer a more intimate multi-instrument circle format.
A standard session runs 60 to 90 minutes, including instrument introduction, individual rhythm learning, section rehearsals, and the final unified performance. We can compress to 45 minutes for large-event formats where the activity is one segment of a longer programme.
Yes. The facilitation narrative can be themed around your conference topic — diversity, collaboration, alignment, or any other theme that maps naturally to the musical metaphor. The finale moment can also be incorporated into a larger conference narrative.
We need seating arranged in sub-group sections with sufficient aisle space for facilitator movement between groups. A standard conference hall, hotel ballroom, or auditorium seating arrangement works perfectly. We configure the instrument distribution based on your venue layout.
Both work powerfully. As a conference opener, it synchronises the audience within minutes and sets a collaborative tone for the entire event. As a closer, the unified finale creates an emotional peak that sends every participant home with a visceral shared memory.
Latin Connection uses multiple different instruments (each group plays a different instrument with a different rhythm), creating a more complex and musically diverse arrangement. Drum Jam uses a single percussion instrument type across the full group. Latin Connection is more about celebrating diversity of contribution; Drum Jam is more about pure collective synchronisation.
Yes, and this is one of our most powerful event combinations. A keynote on collaboration, diversity, or collective intelligence followed immediately by Latin Connection translates the intellectual content of the talk into a visceral, physical experience that locks the message into the group's collective memory.
We recommend a minimum of 5 to 7 working days for standard bookings. For large-group events of 300+ or custom thematic integration, we recommend 2 to 3 weeks advance notice.
