What

The Stan Lee Challenge is engage4more’s most creatively uninhibited team-building experience — a structured 120-minute workshop where teams design, write, and illustrate their own original superhero comic book from a blank canvas. Named in honour of the man who understood that every compelling story needs a diverse cast with distinct powers, this activity demands out-of-the-box ideas, democratic creative decision-making, role specialisation, and the courage to put imagination on paper — skills as relevant to a product launch pitch as to a comic book panel.

Our delivery is grounded in engage4more’s MORE² Framework, which diagnoses the precise engagement gaps your team needs to address. Where strategic alignment is the objective, we layer in our SPARK Framework to connect the activity to your organisational priorities. To maximise the day’s impact, we recommend anchoring the session with one of our expert Motivational Speakers whose keynote primes the team for the experience ahead.

What makes the Stan Lee Challenge so consistently powerful is the equality it creates at the drawing table. The team member who cannot draw discovers they are the best story architect. The one who has never led a meeting becomes the natural director of the visual sequence. Creative confidence — the belief that your ideas have value — is built through this activity in ways that three days of a creativity training programme rarely achieve.

How

Teams of 5–8 receive a blank comic book canvas, a theme brief, and a toolkit of markers, stencils, and character templates. Our facilitators guide the creative process through structured milestones: character design, power allocation, plot architecture, dialogue writing, and visual execution. Teams are reminded throughout that artistic skill is irrelevant — clarity of idea and strength of collaboration are the only currencies that matter. The session concludes with a “Comic Con Showcase” where each team presents their book with a dramatic reading.

To book Stan Lee Challenge for your event,

Stages

  • Stage 1: The Origin Story Brief – Facilitators introduce the theme, comic book format, and creative constraints that will shape each team’s story.

  • Stage 2: Character Creation – Teams design their superhero(es), assigning distinct powers as metaphors for real team strengths or company values.

  • Stage 3: The Plot Arc – Teams outline their story: the challenge, conflict, collaboration, and resolution — mirroring real project management structure.

  • Stage 4: The Illustration Sprint – Every member contributes panels, dialogue, and visual elements to the final book in a full-team execution phase.

  • Stage 5: The Comic Con Showcase – Each team presents their finished book with a dramatic reading. A People’s Choice award is voted by the full group.

FAQs

Absolutely not. The Stan Lee Challenge is deliberately designed for non-artists. We provide character stencils, panel templates, and lettering guides so that anyone can produce a professional-looking comic book page. The emphasis is on storytelling and collaboration, not artistic technique.
Yes. We can brief the activity around your company's founding story, a current strategic challenge, an upcoming product launch, or your annual conference theme. Custom briefs make the creative output more meaningful and shareable within the organisation.
The activity works best for groups of 20 to 150 participants. Teams of 5–8 work on individual comic books simultaneously, and for larger groups we simply add more teams with additional facilitator support.
The standard format is 120 minutes, covering character creation, plot design, illustration sprint, and the Comic Con showcase. We can extend to 150 minutes or compress to 90 minutes.
We provide blank comic book canvases (A2 or A3 format), character design stencils, plot arc worksheets, a full set of professional markers and pens, lettering guides, and facilitator prompt cards. All materials are included in the activity fee.
Yes, and these are often the teams that get the most out of it. The surprise of discovering creative capability in an analytical function is one of the activity's most powerful and consistent outcomes.
Yes. We can arrange professional printing of the finished comic books as a post-event keepsake or internal publication. This is an optional add-on service — enquire at the time of booking for pricing and timelines.
Standard tables and chairs arranged in team clusters, with adequate surface space for A2 or A3 canvases. A hotel conference room, training room, or office meeting room works perfectly. No special AV or technical setup is required.
Absolutely. We can add a formal judging panel, award categories (Best Story, Most Creative Character, Best Visual, Audience Favourite), and a trophy presentation to elevate the showcase into a full awards ceremony.
We recommend a minimum of 5 working days for standard bookings. For custom-themed briefs or professionally printed comic book keepsakes, we recommend 2 to 3 weeks advance notice.
