About Nitin Pai
Dr. Nitin Pai is one of India’s most respected public policy thinkers, known for quietly shaping how a generation of leaders understands governance, technology, and national security. He is the Co-Founder and Director of the Takshashila Institution, Bengaluru, India’s leading independent public policy school, established in 2009 to raise the quality of strategic thinking outside government.
Dr. Pai’s experience is unusually rare: before returning to India, he spent over a decade as a policymaker in Singapore, where he worked on telecom deregulation, broadband rollouts, and submarine cable initiatives linking Singapore and Chennai. This hands-on exposure to how states actually implement policy, not just debate it, continues to inform his grounded, implementation-focused perspective.
His expertise spans public policy design, technology governance, geopolitics, defence strategy, and ethics. At Takshashila, he has been instrumental in shaping the Graduate Certificate in Public Policy (GCPP), a rigorous programme that has trained civil servants, military officers, entrepreneurs, and journalists. In 2024–2025, Takshashila expanded its work on emerging technologies, AI governance, and national resilience, areas where Dr. Pai remains a central intellectual force.
What is less spoken about is Dr. Pai’s role as a translator between worlds, bureaucracy and academia, military strategy and civilian governance, Indian realities and global best practices. His teaching at institutions such as India’s Army War College, College of Defence Management, and Brunei’s Institute of Strategic Studies reflects the authority and trustplaced in him by strategic communities across borders. A gold medalist from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS, and an NTU undergraduate scholar, Dr. Pai is also a widely read columnist for The Mint and Business Standard, known for clarity without ideological noise. As a speaker, Dr. Nitin Pai doesn’t motivate with slogans—he equips audiences to think better.
