About Viswanathan Anand
Viswanathan Anand, fondly known as Vishy, is one of the greatest chess minds the world has ever seen and a true legend who transformed India’s presence on the global chess map. Born on December 11, 1969, in Chennai, Anand displayed extraordinary brilliance from a young age, earning the nickname “The Lightning Kid” for his unmatched speed, clarity of thought, and intuitive brilliance in rapid and blitz formats. He became India’s first-ever Grandmaster in 1988, opening the doors of world-class chess for an entire nation. His career reached historic heights when he became the World Chess Champion, marking India’s arrival in a sport long dominated by European powerhouses.
Viswanathan Anand is a five-time World Chess Champion, winning the title in different formats and eras—an achievement that places him among the greatest champions in chess history. His victories include the 2000 FIDE World Chess Championship, the 2007 undisputed World Chess Championship, and successful defenses in 2008, 2010, and 2012. He is also one of the rare players to have crossed the 2800 Elo rating, achieving this milestone in 2006. Over the decades, he has won prestigious tournaments such as Linares, Corus, and the Rapid & Blitz World Championships, further strengthening his legendary status.
Anand’s impact extends far beyond the chessboard. With humility, grace, and a lifelong passion for the game, he has inspired millions of young Indians to take up chess. His achievements have earned him India’s highest sporting and civilian honors, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
Today, Viswanathan Anand stands not just as a champion, but as a symbol of intelligence, discipline, and excellence. Book Viswanathan Anand for your next event to bring unmatched insight, strategic wisdom, and the inspiring story of a man who became the Tiger of Madras—and later, the pride of India.
