What

Office Roadies is engage4more’s most viscerally honest team trust experience — a simulation obstacle game where blindfolded participants navigate a confined area filled with obstacles, guided exclusively by the verbal instructions of their teammates standing on the outside. The activity is elegantly simple in design and extraordinarily rich in outcome: the moment a person is blindfolded and placed in an unfamiliar, obstacle-laden environment, every human instinct for trust, reliance, and communication is activated simultaneously. The quality of the instructions shouted from the outside is the only variable that determines success or failure — making Office Roadies the most direct and most honest test of your team’s communication quality available in any team-building format.

Our delivery is grounded in engage4more’s MORE² Framework, which diagnoses the precise engagement gaps your team needs to address. Where strategic alignment is the objective, we layer in our SPARK Framework to connect the activity to your organisational priorities. To maximise the day’s impact, we recommend anchoring the session with one of our expert Motivational Speakers whose keynote primes the team for the experience ahead.

Office Roadies is built on a strategic planning and trust architecture. Before the blindfolded participant enters the course, the team has a planning window to observe the layout, identify the highest-value point collection routes, and establish a communication protocol that will work under pressure. The degree to which the pre-agreed plan survives contact with the reality of the course — and how the team adapts when it does not — is the activity’s most revealing dimension. The debrief maps the team’s obstacle race behaviour to their real workplace communication and trust dynamics with startling precision.

How

Employees are grouped into teams. The obstacle course — a confined area of approximately 80 x 50 feet filled with props-based obstacles and point-scoring objects — is revealed to the full group. One team member is blindfolded and enters the course; the remaining team members stand outside the boundary and guide them verbally, competing against the clock and other teams. Rotations allow every team member to experience both the blindfolded navigator role and the guiding role — ensuring every participant understands the full communication challenge from both sides. The team with the highest combined point score across all rotations wins.

Stages

  • Stage 1: The Course Reveal & Strategy Window – Teams observe the obstacle layout and spend a planning window developing their navigation strategy and communication protocol before the first blindfold goes on.

  • Stage 2: The Navigation Rounds – Each team member takes a turn as the blindfolded navigator, guided by their teammates. Points are accumulated for each round, with a running team leaderboard updated after each rotation.

  • Stage 3: The Adaptation Round – After the initial rotations, our facilitator introduces a course modification that invalidates the original strategy — forcing teams to adapt their communication and planning in real time, mirroring the adaptive challenge of real project work.

  • Stage 4: The Final Navigation & Debrief – The highest-scoring team faces a final navigation challenge. The facilitated debrief maps the session’s trust, communication, and strategic planning observations directly to real workplace dynamics.

FAQs

Yes. All obstacles in the course are soft-edged props that produce no injury on contact — the score is affected by an obstacle touch, not the participant's safety. Our facilitators monitor every navigation round from inside the boundary and can intervene immediately if needed.
The standard course requires a minimum of 80 x 50 feet (approximately 24 x 15 metres) of clear, flat indoor or outdoor space. Hotel ballrooms, covered outdoor lawns, and corporate campus open areas all work well.
The activity works best for groups of 30 to 200 participants, divided into teams of 5 to 8. For larger groups, we run multiple simultaneous courses with additional facilitators, maintaining the same competitive scoring structure.
A standard session runs 60 to 90 minutes, including the course reveal, strategy window, navigation rounds, adaptation round, final challenge, and facilitated debrief.
Yes. Participants with mobility limitations can take the guide role — standing outside the boundary and providing verbal instructions — throughout the session. The guide role is equally demanding and equally important to the team's success as the navigation role.
After the initial navigation rounds, our facilitator introduces a course modification — adding, moving, or removing obstacles — that forces teams to update their strategy and communication protocol in real time. This mirrors the adaptive demands of real project work and consistently produces the session's most revealing team behaviour observations.
Both. The inter-team competition for the highest point score creates healthy competitive energy. The intra-team collaboration required for each navigation round — where every team member's communication quality directly determines the blindfolded navigator's success — is deeply collaborative.
Yes. The obstacle layout and scoring objects can be themed to your conference narrative or company milestone with advance notice. Themed obstacles add a narrative layer to the debrief that makes the activity's metaphors even more directly applicable to your team's work context.
The debrief uses the session's specific observable evidence to discuss: communication clarity under pressure, the experience of trusting a colleague completely, how the team's pre-activity strategy fared against real conditions, and how the adaptation round mirrors the team's real-world response to plan changes.
We recommend a minimum of 5 to 7 working days for standard bookings. For large-group events of 100+ or custom-themed obstacle layouts, we recommend 2 weeks advance notice.
